Biography
Dr. Fall-Dickson joined the Daniel K. Inouye School of Nursing (GSN), Uniformed ServicesUniversity of the Health Sciences as the Associate Dean for Research (ADR) in June, 2023.
She is providing strategic planning and leadership for research initiatives at the GSN.
Previously, she was an associate professor at the Georgetown University School of Nursing
where she had served as the Assistant Chair, Research. She was also an Affiliate Member,
Cancer Prevention and Control Program, Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center,
Georgetown University Medical Center (GUMC). Her post-doctoral training was completed
through the Clinical Research Fellowship Program in the Clinical Research Core and the Pain
and Neurosensory Mechanisms Branch, National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research,
National Institutes of Health (NIH). Dr. Fall-Dickson served as an intramural Investigator focused
on elucidating mechanisms of and testing novel treatment for oral chronic graft-versus-host
disease and oral mucositis and related oral symptoms, and as a Special Assistant to the
Scientific Director, National Institute of Nursing Research, NIH. Her initial oncology clinical
nursing practice focused on administering research protocol-driven cancer chemotherapy at the
Clinical Center, NIH. She practiced as the Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) at St.
Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem, PA, where she led efforts to develop the oncology chemotherapy
unit, trained all nursing staff in safe chemotherapy administration, and wrote and integrated into
clinical practice all evidence-based policies and procedures for chemotherapy administration.
She replicated this work as a CNS at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center (MWHC),
Washington, DC and was instrumental in planning and opening the WHC medical oncology unit.
Her numerous publications, presentations, and funded research are in the broad areas of
cancer survivorship, symptom science, hematopoietic stem cell transplant, and testing novel
topical treatments for oral mucositis and related symptoms and associated inflammatory
biomarkers. Her service leadership has included development of clinical practice guidelines for
mucositis as a member of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer, proposal
review for the Community Oncology Research Program, Division of Cancer Prevention, National
Cancer Institute, NIH, and numerous GUMC committees including the Protocol Review and
Monitoring Committee, Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the Scientific Evaluation
and Prioritization Committee, Georgetown-Howard University Clinical Translational Science
Award. Her research mentorship for GUSON students was recognized by the 2023 Allan
Angerio Award for Excellence in Mentorship. In her current ADR role, she serves as a member
of the Research Advisory Committee for the USUHS Vice President for Research, and a
member of the Advisory Board, Center for Rehabilitation Sciences Research.
Dr. Fall-Dickson received a BA in English and French from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College in
Indiana, a BSN from the University of Maryland School of Nursing, an MSN from Yale School of
Nursing, and a PhD from the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing.
