Biography

There are three core competencies that comprise Dr. McCants' nursing philosophy: 1) the ability to design and lead, 2) effective leadership and management, as well as 3) the ability to convert data into useful information. As a nurse leader, Dr. McCants is devoted to making a domestic and global difference in the health of individuals, which will also favorably impact an organization’s effectiveness.

Throughout her second career as a civilian registered nurse, Dr. McCants has held nurse leadership positions. Her experiences include, but are not limited to leading bedside nursing with a foundation in Medical-Surgical nursing, policy and utilization review, as well as serving as the founder and chief executive of a non-profit for which Dr. McCants was awarded a grant to conduct her proposal entitled “Preventive Cancer Information.” Also, she was selected to participate in the Frontline Leadership program where she led the transition of a quality improvement project that increased the efficiency of utilization review for that facility. Additionally, Dr. McCants led a risk stratification project at a Fortune 500 company where she improved the quality and timeliness of nurse practitioners’ assessments for a target population via Lean Six Sigma methodology. Further, Dr. McCants completed a fellowship through International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning (INACSL) – CAE for simulation with a focus on curriculum development. Dr. McCants boasts proven leadership as evidenced by her signification role in standing up a new contract for a Fortune 500 company.

Dr. McCants worked in the office of Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and the U.S. Attorney’s Office. She later managed radioactive dosages at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in New York. Her current research was published in the journal for Professional Case Management in May 2019, which includes a CEU. This research was also presented at the American Academy of Nursing's 2018 Transforming Health, Driving Policy Conference (November 1-3, 2018) in Washington, DC, as well as at the Sigma Theta Tau International 29th International Nursing Research Congress in Melbourne, Australia.

Separately, Dr. McCants enjoys curling up to a non-fiction; sailing with family; serving as an Elder in her church; and outdoor activities.
