Biography

MAJ Deeds is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) and Assistant Professor with the Daniel K. Inouye Graduate School of Nursing at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD.

MAJ Deeds has over 17 years of military experience. He first enlisted in the Air Force in 1997 as a Munition Systems Apprentice and was soon released from his Air Force obligation after receiving a 4-year Army Nursing Scholarship. MAJ Deeds completed his Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing at Creighton University (Distinguished Military Graduate) in 2002, his Master of Science in Nursing from Northeastern University in 2009, and his Doctor of Nursing Practice from Duke University in 2015. MAJ Deeds completed his anesthesia training (MSN-Northeastern) from the U.S. Army Graduate Program in Anesthesia Nursing (USAGPAN-Distinguished Military Graduate) in 2009.

MAJ Deeds has 3 combat deployments. He served 6 months as a medical-surgical nurse with 10th Combat Support Hospital to Camp Virginia, Kuwait, in January 2003. He then served as an emergency department nurse for 13 months with the 31st Combat Support Hospital in Baghdad, Iraq, from January 2004 - January 2005. His most recent combat deployment was as a CRNA with the 772nd Forward Surgical Team in Jalalabad, Afghanistan, from January – July 2012.

MAJ Deeds also served deployed in support of 3 humanitarian missions, providing medical and surgical care for indigenous rural populations. He was a student registered nurse anesthetist (SRNA) in 2009 when he was part of a small anesthesia team that provided anesthesia support for pediatric ophthalmic correction surgeries in Choluteca, Honduras. Then, in 2012, he was the sole anesthesia provider on an ear, nose and throat surgical team to Sumatra, Indonesia. Most recently, he provided anesthesia support for a complex Orthopedic surgical mission to Tegucigalpa, Honduras in 2017.

Major military awards in include the Combat Action Badge, Meritorious Service Medal (3), Army Commendation Medal (4), Army Achievement Medal (5), Iraqi Campaign Medal (2 stars), and Afghanistan Campaign Medal (1 star).
